San Candido in Alta Pusteria, Alto Adige – Dolomites

San Candido (in German known as Innichen) is a lovely alpine village in South Tyrol’s Pusteria Valley. The village is home to the 13th century Innichen Abbey, the most important Romanesque building in Tyrol.

Sorrounded by the Dolomites, this village is a paradise for nature lovers all year round. In this true jewel of the Puster Valley, in the heart of the Dolomites, where nature reigns in every season.

Only 3-minutes walk from the center of the village is the Baranci ski resort. The skiing mountains of Monte Elmo, Croda Rossa, Orto del Toro, Plan de Corones and Val Comelico are easily reached from San Candido by bus or train.

The area is renowned as Italy’s number one cross-country skiing destinations, with over 200 km (124 miles) of perfectly prepared cross-country tracks with panoramic views of the Dolomites. Snow-shoeing and winter hiking are also very popular here, with easy paths suitable for gentle walks and short excursions.

There is plenty of summer sports to do while in San Candido, thanks to the many side valleys and peaks that surrounding the town. There are walking and trekking paths for every level, as well as mountain bike, horse back riding and rock climbing options.
